Charred timber fragment from HMS 'Bombay 1828. Label: 'A piece of the main mast of the Line of Battle ship 'Bombay' which was burnt at sea on the 14 Decr. 1864 with the loss of 97 lives - the masts which fell over the sides of the vessel when burning were afterwards recovered by the Italian flagship which went out from the River Plate after the report of the loss of the Bombay flagship on the SE coast of the United States had been received...'
