A large and discoloured piece of pack ice moving past the ice breaker Kapitan Dranitsyn (1975)
A view of a large and discoloured piece of pack ice moving past the ship. The photograher was standing at a windowon the port side of the accommodation area on the Russian ice breaker Kapitan Dranitsyn (1975).
On 25 July the ice breaker sailed though the Beaufort Sea, passing small pack ice. Ivy Sharp recorded 'It is interesting that whilst we are many miles from land most of the ice flows are very dirty. This is due to some pollution, but also from the original encounter with land."
