Circular wooden box

Circular wooden box made of the wood of the hip of the line 'Royal George', which sank at Spithead in 1782. The box and lid with the history pasted inside each half. Top of the box: 'This box is made out of one of the knees in the Midshipman’s larboard berth of HMS Victory, where Lord Nelson was carried after receiving his death wound in the glorious battle of Trafalgar 21 Oct 1805. 1st circle is from a piece of oak brought up from the Edgar at Spithead. 2nd circle from a piece of oak from the Bellerophon, which ship brought the ex-Emperor Napoleon Buonaparte to England. 3rd circle from a piece of oak in the original rafters of Westminster Abbey where Nelson lies buried.’ Bottom of the box: 'First circle, a piece of oak brought up from the wreck of the Royal George, sunk at Spithead in Aug 1782. Second circle from a piece of oak taken from the late Royal William built in 1719 & broken up at Portsmouth in Aug 1823. Third circle from a piece of one of the original oak rafters of the Savoy prison, lately pulled down in the Strand, London. This box was given to me by J. Richards RN. Aug. 1833.’
