Gravelines, first seal of the town, 1244. Depicting a mid-thirteenth-century sailing vessel. It shows a clear view of the helmsman grasping the tiller of the quarter rudder. Also shown, St Willibrord, Bishop of Utrecht and Apostle of Frisia. Inscription: 'SIGILLVM . S'WILLIBRORDI . DE . NEVPORT . AD . GRAVENIGES'. The cast is mounted on an emulsioned plywood backboard with a label.
