Two casts, obverse and reverse, of a commemorative medal. Reverse cracked. Obverse: Bust of Captain von Müller in uniform (three-quarter left). Legend: 'FREGATTENKAPITÄN VON MÜLLER.' Reverse: Within a band enclosing legend starboard broadside view of SMS 'Emden' under steam; 'S . M . S . EMDEN' above, below the arms of the city of Emden and '1914'. Legend: 'EINE . NEUE . STÄRKERE . EMDEN . WIRD . ERSTEHEN . W . I . R.' (A new, stronger 'Emden' will arise. W.I.R.)
