90 (1937); Service vessel; Lightship
Scale: not calculated. The model clearly shows how lightships have evolved into the highly specialized craft of today: the deep hull and large rudder for stability and compensates for the high centre of gravity caused by the light; built up for protection from high seas; large anchors to prevent drifting; prominent weather vanes and signalling apparatus; and the all-important light mounted as high as possible above the waterline. Lead-lines have been depicted from the stern quarters of the model which provide a continuous sounding of the depth of water.
Light vessels ‘90’, ‘91’ and ‘92’ were built for the Corporation of Trinity House by Philip & Son Ltd., Dartmouth, in 1937.
