Scale: Unknown. A model of the upper portion of a topmast complete with cross trees showing the lower section of the topmast held in position by a fid (mizzen). The model is made entirely of stained and polished mahogany and is mounted on its original circular wooden baseboard. The cross trees comprise of a pair of timbers athwart let into a large pair running fore and aft. On the upper face of the larger two timbers is a pair of recessed metal plates with small metal eyes, used for working and securing the fid. At the top of the model is the cap secured to the square section of the topmast, and the round section of the topgallant mast, on which is pinned a paper coloured metal label inscribed "Plan for facilitating Striking Topmasts by T. W. Rice Esq F.S.A.". There are two other paper labels attached to the model, a small printed label cut out from a catalogue on the athwart timber forward of the heal of the topmast and a larger hand written paper label on the circular base, both of which are illegible.
