Equipment model; Propeller model

Scale: Unknown. A model of the method for raising and lowering a propeller made in wood with metal and rope fittings and stained and polished. The model shows a stylised section of stern with its deadwood and rudder post and a propeller well terminating in a cross shaped aperture at deck level. The two bladed propeller does not rotate but is fixed on its shaft in a vertical position. The frame housing the propeller is connected to a series of pulley wheels that can be worked by pulling a large brass toggle. By pulling the toggle the propeller can be raised. Straddling the propeller well at deck level is a brass frame with four pulley wheels that facilitate the operation. The model is displayed on a rectangular mahogany baseboard with bevelled edges.
