White Ensign

British naval ensign. Battle of Heligoland Bight, 28 August 1914. Used to staunch the wounds of AB Austin J Small, later a well-known writer. Wool bunting, machine-sewn. Rope and four Inglefield clips attached. Brass grommets in hoist.
