Warship

Scale: Unknown. A full hull model of a Chinese warship made plank-on-frame and painted in realistic colours. The lower hull is painted white up to the level of the main wale which is painted black. The bulwarks are painted a duck-egg blue with red framing. The inboard bulwarks are painted red throughout. The main deck and hatch covers are made from varnished wood and the poop deck is painted cream with a companion way finished in duck-egg blue. The model shows two open stern quarter galleries, painted duck-egg blue, with two pennant shaped flags painted onto their rear faces with red outlines enclosing a red circle. A red circle is also painted on the stern counter. The main deck has eight hatch covers running along the centre, the rearmost three of which can be removed to show the internal structure. There is provision for two masts with tabernacles for a main mast and foremast, both painted red. The main mast tabernacle has a pair of windlasses connected between the tabernacle and the bulwarks. There are three additional windlasses, two positioned between the foremast and main mast and a third at the bow, probably used for working the anchor. The bow decoration consists of an oculus which has been realistically painted in black and white. There are six ruffle holes running the length of the keel used for beaching the vessel for repairs and maintenance. There are two pairs of gun ports in the bulwarks between the fore and main masts, the exterior frames of which have a red painted decoration. There are a further two gun ports at the stern. The large balanced rudder is made from two types of varnished wood and has three rows of square perforations on the main blade. Keel blocks are secured to the model but the baseboard is missing.
