Ethnographic boat model

Ethnographic boat model of a Greenland type kayak, built at a scale of 1:6. The sealskin covering is in one piece joined along the deck centreline, sewn together using seal and caribou sinew. There is a gentle curve up to the bow and stern and a 'leather' spray cover surrounding the manhole. Strips of bone protect the fore and after foot. The model is equipped with a paddle and number of fittings in ivory, including a harpoon with throwing extension and toggles for attaching same to kayak. The hull is inscribed ‘36926 Greenland Gov’. One item inscribed ‘36031 Greenland’.
