cat-o'-nine-tails
Cat-o'-nine-tails. Wooden handle, covered with green baize and sewn with twine. The cords are set in grooves in the handle. Nine tails with red cord laid into each (distinguishing colour for rope from H M Dockyard, Portsmouth). On label ' Navy Cat. Never used obtained from Duke of Wellington 26th June 1899 H M Dockyard Portsmouth'.
