handkerchief, snuff
Linen square printed brown on white (Trafalgar memorial handkerchief) with a scene of a naval action with hand-to hand combat in boats. Inscribed 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY / VICTORY OR WESTMINSTER ABBEY / THE MEMORABLE NAVAL ENGAGEMENT / on the 21st October 1805, when the British Fleet under the command of Lord Nelson took and destroy'd after one of the severest actions in Annals of History, twenty one Ships of the Line'. The image is probably based on a much earlier print.
