Honourable East India Company uniform: pattern 1828
Epaulette worn by Lieutenant Andrew Nisbett of the Indian Navy. The epaulette is of gold lace over sheet metal, the crescent is slightly padded and the bullions are over a bonnet. The button on the end of the strap features a raised fouled anchor below a rampant guardant lion holding a crown – the insignia of the Honourable East India Company. This reflects the fact that the company’s marine unit were the precursors of the Indian Navy.
The underside of the epaulette is lined with padded velvet and leather.
