Compass and binnacle
Binnacle contains compass ACO0157
A projector compass and binnacle for use in the lower conning tower of battleships and cruisers.
Binnacle: Wood with an elongated brass upper part. Diameter of base 14.0" (35.6 cm), Diameter of top 12.0" (30.5 cm). Fitted with heavy sphere brackets with 10.0" (25.4 cm) dia spheres, two wooden doors, with locks, give access to for-and-aft and athwartship corrector magnet racks and two buckets containing vertical corrector magnets. A projecting prism is mounted on the upper part of the binnacle. Hood is fitted with an oval glazed aperture with lid and shutters, a circular aperture at top with brass cover, and a lamp bracket with oil lamp on one side. There are two sliding doors in the upper part of the binnacle.
