Liquid compass
Bowl: Grey painted brass, filler plug at side, expansion chamber at base. Inside of bowl painted white. Has a black wire lubber line under verge glass. Fitted with a rotating verge ring which is graduated to 360 degs carrying two parallel wires in the N-S line, for grid steering. A glass cover is fitted to verge ring, also a verge ring lock. Mounted in grey painted brass casing. Dia. 5"(12.7cm) without any means of damping vibrations.
Card: Wire spider of eight elements, N-S red, N point marked by a red diamond, other elements black. The ends are turned down at right angles. Attached to pivot at centre.
Needle: Two needle magnets mounted below spider.
Pivot: Inverted type, with pivot stem attached to bridge at base of bowl.
