Liquid compass

Liquid compass with a broken rubber sealant ring marked ACO0503.1 can be found via the Whole/Part toggle.

Bowl: Brass, painted black, filler plug at side above aft pivit point, and expanding glazed bottom (which incorporates the expansion chamber) is fitted. The verge ring is graduated to 360 degrees and the verge glass is fitted with soft iron strips (for 'D' correction). Inside of bowl painted white, has four lubber lines which consist of vertical lines painted on vertical strips of metal standing on the base of bowl and linked to sides by horizontal metal strips at top. Mountd in brass gimbal ring Diameter 13" (33 cm) the pivots of which are fitted with roller bearings.

Card: Diameter 7.5" (19 cm) metal strip 1" (2.5 cm) wide, painted white with black markings, graduated to 360 deg and to 16 points. Attached to a black metal framework having two tubular bars in form of a + which carries the pivot cup at centre.

Needle: Four 3.15" (8.0 cm) flat needles in two tiers attached by a metal framework on which card is mounted.

Pivot: Pivot stem attached to centre of glass at bottom of bowl and carries a pivot point which engages in pivot cup carried at centre of framework on which card is mounted.
