Sword
Sword-stick. Owned by Captain A.J. Enstone, Royal Naval Air Service (active 1914-1918). The hilt is plaited leather. There is a flattened diamond blade, with a square shoulder, tapering towards the tip, with etched decoration for two-thirds of its length. The obverse is inscribed with floral strapwork, a plain central panel with the initials 'A.J.E', floral strapwork. The reverse is inscribed with floral strapwork, a plain panel marked 'WILKINSON PALL MALL', floral strapwork, a panel with crown above, eagle wings outstetched, floral strapwork. The cane scabbard has a brass ferrule and tapers slightly. There is a square section hole cut in the centre of it to fit a blade cane and there are slots into base of hilt to provide snug fit. Purchased with collection of manuscripts, medals and uniform items.
