Dry compass

Card: Mica covered with paper, black with white markings, graduated to quarter points.

Needle: Two heavy edge bar needles 4.35" (11.1 cm) in length, attached to card by a brass ring.

Pivot: Double pivot type, upper pivot secured to centre of card by a brass boss and is fitted with a spider of four brass arms, fitted with weights for balancing which radiate from central boss. Lower pivot secured to centre of card by a heavy brass boss which has two struts linking the two edge bar needles with the pivot.
