Inspired by the UKRI-AHRC funded Observatory Networks project in 2021-22, we are hosting a one-day in-person conference to catch up and reflect on current research relating to historic observatories.
We’re excited to invite you to join us for a focused discussion on topics such as:
- Observatory people and places
- Observatory technologies in transition
- Observatory networks and influences
- Observatories today: challenges and opportunities
A detailed programme is available here. A sandwich lunch and refreshments will be provided.
The conference will be followed by an evening lecture and drinks reception to celebrate the launch of two publications associated with the 350th anniversary of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich:
Royal Observatory Greenwich: A History in Objects
Dr Louise Devoy
Royal Observatory Greenwich, 2025
The Royal Observatory, Greenwich, 1881–1939: Astronomy, astronomers and heritage in a changing world
Lee T. Macdonald
UCL Press, 2026
Each author will provide a brief overview of their publication, followed by an ‘in conversation’ discussion about common themes and shared reflections on the rich history of this unique site of scientific heritage.
Please RSVP by 10 March to confirm your place. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
