Discover this suite of films and resources for SEND teachers and pupils, linking the picture book Immi by Karin Littlewood and the collections at the National Maritime Museum.

The films have been made in consultation with SEND teachers and consultants and are accompanied by a resource pack of classroom activities.

Connections across the ocean

Below are two films based on the picture book Immi, presented by author and illustrator, Karin Littlewood.

SEND learners can meet the main character Immi, engage with the story's sensory elements and its themes of friendship, multinational cultures and identities. The videos will increase SEND learners' familiarity with the National Maritime Museum and its galleries.

Join us as we embark on an adventure that will take us from the ‘Polar Worlds’ to the ‘Pacific Encounters’.

Immi's story

In the video above, join Karin as we enter Immi's world. Explore the sights and sounds of the Arctic that Immi calls home, as we journey around the National Maritime Museum's Polar Worlds gallery.

Follow along, as Immi’s igloo becomes the most colourful thing in the land.

Activity: 'Immi's igloo'

In the video above Karin and Noel are at the National Maritime Museum and are making their own igloo. Watch as they fish out interesting objects from their ice hole and paint them on their igloo.
How colourful will it get?
