Get your costume ready for Fierce Queens 2026 with Bold Mellon Collective!

In this hands-on costume workshop, explore how design tells a story - through texture, colour, and character. Gather inspiration from the museum’s collections, then reimagine discarded fabrics and plastics into bold creations inspired by maritime and queer histories.

Experiment with surface manipulation techniques such as appliqué and pleating with sustainable, DIY flair as you craft a unique accessory to elevate your Fierce Queens look.

No prior experience necessary. Participants are encouraged to bring their own fabrics, costume pieces and idea drafts. Out-of-the-box upcycling options are also welcome.

These workshops are FREE to attend, but booking is required as we have limited spaces available. If you have any access requirements, please contact learning@rmg.co.uk

Facilitated by: Amy-Rose Edlyn, Emilia Nurmukhamet and Annie Dearnley of Bold Mellon Collective CIC

This is a two-part series on Friday 23rd Jan and Saturday 24th Jan | 1pm-4pm at the National Maritime Museum.

Two illustrated costumes standing beside each other. The first shows a gray and blue long cloak with flared sleeves and a tie around the waist. The second shows a blue and red patterned dress and an emerald green cloak on top.
