For centuries the Moon has exerted a mystical pull on the human imagination, especially for the artist John Russell, who spent 30 years meticulously observing the night sky to craft his breathtaking lunar globe, the Selenographia.
Step behind the scenes at the Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre with Tim May, Curator of Maps and Mobilities, to explore the remarkable history of moon mapping - from the Elizabethan Age to the Space Race.

Meet the curator: Tim May
Tim May is Curator of Maps and Mobilities at Royal Museums Greenwich, with a passion for uncovering the diverse histories of the collection. He earned his BA and MPhil in Geography from the University of Cambridge, and PhD in Geography from the University of Durham.

By train: You can reach us from central London via direct routes by Cannon Street London Bridge, Charing Cross and Victoria. Our nearest station is Kidbrooke which is only 5 minute walk away.
