From Object to Art is a monthly craft club at The Prince Philip Maritime Collections Centre, offering a welcoming space to relax, create and connect with others through making.
Each session introduces a new craft technique, from painting and drawing to textile and much more. Led by experienced facilitators, each session takes inspiration from a theme and object, encouraging participants to experiment and develop their creative skills in a supportive environment.
Whether you're a seasoned maker or trying something new, come and enjoy hands-on activities, meet like-minded people, and take a break from the everyday to immerse yourself in creativity.
Workshops last for 90 minutes and include demonstrations, materials and refreshments. No experience needed – just bring yourself!

Globiles: celebrating our ocean as one
Saturday 8 November | 10.30am - 12.30pm
Join Remiiya Badru for a creative workshop celebrating the ocean as one - the vast, interconnected blue that unites communities, ecosystems, flora and fauna across the globe.
In this session, we’ll explore both the beauty and fragility of our ocean environment, reflecting on issues such as pollution, endangered species, and climate change.
Participants will be guided through origami and paper manipulation techniques to create their own ‘Globile’ - a globe-inspired mobile that celebrates the wonders of the ocean while expressing hopes and aspirations for its future.
Be inspired by globes from the collection, take photos or make quick sketches, and let your creativity flow as we imagine the ocean as a true global community connector.
All materials will be supplied for this session.
Festive nautical cards: a voyage through time
Saturday 6 December | 10.30am - 12.30pm
Step into the season with facilitator and artist Jaquie. Together you will discover a fascinating Christmas card from our collection, designed in 1947 but depicting the 1677 honeymoon voyage of William and Mary. Although listed as by an ‘unknown artist’, a closer look reveals the elegant signature of Van de Velde the Younger, adding a twist of historical intrigue.
After exploring this curious festive find, you’ll be invited to design your own nautical-inspired Christmas card, combining creativity and history.
All materials will be supplied for this session.
