Account of a patrol cruise to the Antarctic on HMS MILFORD, 1934.
Typescript account of a patrol cruise during Ryan’s service as a surgeon lieutenant on the sloop HMS MILFORD (1932). It describes gale-force conditions and encounters with icebergs during a cruise from Simonstown to the Antarctic in February 1934. The MILFORD was able to reach Bouvet Island and thus demonstrate the seaworthiness of this class of vessel.
The account is entitled ‘Cruise of H.M.S. Milford to Bouvet Island. February 1935.’ The year in the title and dates in the account appear to be incorrect.
