Log kept by Hugh Lloyd Williams as a midshipman on HMS TEMERAIRE and HMS HAUGHTY, 1809-1811

Covers the period of 22 Apr 1809 to 6 Mar 1811. During Williams’ time on the 2nd rate 98 gun HMS TEMERAIRE (to 27th July 1810) and the 12 gun HAUGHTY, both of which seem to have been stationed in the Mediterranean during this time.

Administrative / biographical background
Hugh Lloyd Williams was born at Lodge, in North Wales, and entered the Navy, in 1807, on board HMS Téméraire. In July 1810, he removed as Midshipman (a rating he had attained in April 1809) to HMS Haughty, on the Mediterranean station; and he then (from June 1811 until August 1814), was employed in the Channel and again in the Mediterranean, part of the time as Master’s Mate, in HMS Belle Poule and HMS Pembroke. .
