Notebook containing the first part of the memoir written by Arthur Edward Palmer. It describes events circa 1891-1894 including his recruitment into the Royal Navy, training on HMS IMPREGNABLE at Plymouth, a voyage to Sydney on the passenger liner CUZCO (1871), then service on the composite screw corvette HMS RAPID (1883) on the Australia station. In this period HMS RAPID (here given the false name HMS RESCUE) visited Norfolk Island, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. The volume is dedicated to his daughter Helen Maud Palmer.
