Midshipman's log for the MONARCH, TURQUOISE, HOWE and VOLAGE, 1889-1893; a volume of plans of anchorages, EDGAR and TRIUMPH, 1903-1905; an account of the Witu expedition, 1890; account of a search by HM Ships for the derelict SIDDARTHA, 1899 and practical navigation notes. Xerox copy of a booklet entitled 'Some Reminiscences of a Midshipman in the Fifties during the 19th Century' by Owen Fisher Daniel; and a pen and ink sketch of a memorial to Nicholas Vansittart, Lord Bexley, who died in 1859. There is included a contemporary copy of a statement of service by Captain Peter Fisher (d. 1944), dated Walmer Bay 1836 and a log of proceedings of the WYE kept by Captain Peter Fisher, 1820-1822.

Administrative / biographical background
Daniel entered into the navy as a midshipman in 1889 after is training in the BRITANNIA from 1987. He joined the MONARCH, 1988-1989; the TURQUOISE, East Indies Station, 1889-1891; serving in the HOWE, Australian Squadron 1891-1892. He was promoted acting sub lieutenant in 1893 and sub lieutenant in the same year and went on to serve in the REPULSE in 1894, when he was described as 'very skilful' and 'a very good pilot, with practice.' He was promoted lieutenant in 1895 and between 1898 and 1901 was a reliable navigator and pilot, joining the VENEER in the Mediterranean and the ECLIPSE serving with the Home Fleet. He was promoted commander in 1906 andl retired from active service in 1907 being unfit. Later reinstated was promoted captain in 1921.
