Baird, a naval surgeon, served with Earl St Vincent (q.v.) in the 1790s. He was Commissioner for Sick and Wounded, 1803 to 1804, and appointed Inspector-General of Naval Hospitals in 1804. Baird's association with St Vincent continued after the latter's retirement and he attended him in his last illness in 1823.
