Midshipman's journal kept by John Ronald Gower between 13 September 1930 and 7 August 1931. Throughout this period, Gower was on the cruiser HMS SHROPSHIRE (1928), with the First Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean. The journal includes sketches, technical drawings and charts. There are also postcards from a visit to the Plitvice Lakes in Yugoslavia and programmes for boxing and athletics events at Malta.
