Captain Radford's diary
The personal recollections of George Radford who went to sea as an apprentice with the British Tanker Company in 1929. Rising through the ranks to become Chief Officer, Radford served throughout the Second World War in naval vessels as an RNR officer. At the end of the war, he returned to the Merchant Navy, sailing as master of an early roll-on/roll-off ferry before joining the Trinity House pilotage service. A member of the Nautical Institute, Radford was a frequent contributor to the Institute's journal Seaways.
