Global from the start : a short history of Cable & Wireless /Cable&Wireless Plc.
This item is a brief survey of the company's development from the 1860s up to to early 21st century. The first successful international telegraph cable was laid in 1851, linking London and Paris via a submarine cable. This short history covers the company's development from the provision of international communications in the 19th century to the digital networks of the 21st century. Illustrations include: the Great Eastern laying the Atlantic telegraph cable in 1866; maps showing the company's cable routes in the 1920s; and a map showing Cable & Wireless locations in 1947.

The port of Rye : by Neil Hawke.
"The purpose of this work is to set out the nature and extent of Rye's role as a port, trading with the world from 1837 to the present, paying special attention to the vessels that sustained that trade. It was in 1837 that Victoria ascended to the throne. Along the way an opportunity will be taken to look at the port's proud history as a shipbuilding centre which is well represented by the picture on the front of this monograph, showing the schooner Mary Ann, built at Rye in 1851."--Provided by the publisher.

Ice ghosts : the epic hunt for the lost Franklin Expedition /Paul Watson.
"The true story of the greatest mystery of Arctic exploration and the rare mix of marine science and Inuit knowledge that led to the shipwreck?s recent discovery. Ice Ghosts weaves together the epic story of the Lost Franklin Expedition of 1845, whose two ships and crew of 129 were lost to the Arctic ice, with the tale of the incredible discovery of the flagship's wreck in 2014. Paul Watson, who was on the icebreaker that led the discovery expedition, tells a fast-paced historical adventure story: Sir John Franklin and the crew of the HMS Erebus and Terror setting off in search of the fabled Northwest Passage, the hazards they encountered and the reasons they were forced to abandon ship hundreds of miles from the nearest outpost of civilization, and the decades of searching that exposed rumours of cannibalism and a few scattered papers and bones?until a combination of Inuit lore and the latest science yielded a discovery for the ages."--Provided by the publisher.

The America's Cup / with an introduction by Olin Stephens.
Spanning the history of the America's Cup from the first challenge in 1870 to the 27th in 1988, this work contains photographs of competing yachts taken by the Beken family of Cowes. The images are organised in three chronological sections: the early years of 1851-1920, the 'J'-Class (1930-1937) and the 12-metre class (1958-1987). A description of each yacht provides information on the design and ownership of each yacht as well as the races in which the yacht competed.
