A dictionary of Liverpool ship portraitists and marine artists / Anthony Tibbles.
"This dictionary is the most comprehensive work of reference on the ship portraitists and marine artists who worked in Liverpool between the late eighteenth century and the present day. It includes 65 known portraitists and marine artists and an appendix of over a dozen other locally-based painters who produced an occasional marine work and about half a dozen possible marine artists who may have worked, visited or have been temporarily resident in the port. It is organised alphabetically by surname. Each entry includes a full biography of the artist; a summary of their main subjects, style and range of work; details of the main UK and US museums holding their paintings; and the principal published sources. The dictionary includes 70 illustrations which are typical examples of the work of each of the main artists. These included: Samuel and Miles Walters, Joseph Heard, Robert Salmon, Francis Hustwick, William Jackson, John Jenkinson, Sam Brown, Odin Rosenvinge, Thomas Dove, William G Yorke and William H Yorke."--Provided by the publisher.

Spectrum 5.0 Appendix - Information requirements : The UK museum collections management standard /Collections Trust
"Spectrum gives tried-and-tested advice on the things museums do when managing their collections. Some of these are daily activities, such as moving objects around. Others are occasional, like updating insurance cover. Spectrum calls these activities procedures and there are 21 of them. As you follow the text version of a suggested procedure in the main volume of Spectrum 5.0 you will notice that the bits of information you might need to record are listed (eg Object name, Entry number, Brief description). Spectrum calls these concepts units of information and lists them in information groups (eg Object identification information). This appendix to Spectrum 5.0 lists each of the units of information in alphabetical order and gives guidance on how to record each. It also lists them in their information groups. Finally, the appendix sets out the changes to the units and groups in Spectrum 5.0."--Provided by the publisher.

Vaila Mae : the making of the sixareen
"For centuries sixareens sailed the waters of Shetland. Descended from imported Norwegian boats, Shetlanders built their own sixareens 200 years ago. These boats were vital to island life, fishing in distant waters and carrying a cargo around the coast. This film follows the step-by-step construction of the first new sixareen to be built in Lerwick for over a century, as well as telling the story of this unique type of traditional Shetland boat."--Back cover

Mersey tugs through time. / Ian Collard
"The main role of the tug is to assist vessels in the river or within the dock system by moving them by pushing or towing. They are also used to tow barges or platforms which have no engines or methods of propulsion. Tugs are designed to be highly manoeuvrable and powerful as they normally work with large vessels in restricted spaces. The main towing companies operating on the Mersey in the twentieth century were J. & J. H. Rea Limited, Liverpool Screw Towing Company and the Alexandra Towing Company Limited. Mersey tugs were employed to work with passenger liners, cargo vessels, oil tankers and other vessels working on the river. The modern tug is equipped with azimuthing thrusters or Voith Schneider Vertical propellers which enable them to generate the thrust required for towing the larger vessels which are now being built. In this book, Ian Collard charts the development of the Mersey tug from the late nineteenth century to the present day."--Provided by the publisher.
