Kelly's
navy
: John Kelly Ltd of Belfast ; a group fleet history (including an historical overview of
John Kelly Ltd was founded in 1911. An advertisement from 1937 (reproduced in the book) states that they were "colliery proprietors, the largest owners of cargo coasting steamers in the United Kingdom, manufacturers of firebrick and fireclay goods, importers of household, gas and steam coal, owners of Warrenpoint Harbour Docks and lighterage contractors". This book relates the history of the company up until 1999, when it was the second largest fuel supplier in the UK. There is a company overview, details of the Kelly fleets, and the shipowning subsidiaries. Appendix 1 contains a report of the Ballyherbert which went aground on rocks close to the Ardrossan shore in 1958. Appendix 3 is a record in diary form of the voyage of the Crewhill round Britain during World War Two.

German high seas fleet 1914-18 : the Kaiser's challenge to the Royal
Navy
/Angus Konstam ; illustrated
"Drawing on extensive research, Angus Konstam offers the reader a concisely detailed account of how the entire High Seas Fleet was designed and built, how it operated, and how it fought. The fleet was a modern, balanced force of dreadnought battleships, battlecruisers, cruisers and torpedo boats, using Zeppelins and U-boats for reconnaissance. It's ultimate test came in May 1916 when it clashed with the Royal Navy's Grand Fleet at Jutland. From fighting doctrine and crew training to intelligence, logistics and gunnery, and packed with spectacular original artwork, maps, 3D diagrams and archive photos, this book is an essential guide to the Kaiser's audacious bid for naval glory."

Artillery of the Napoleonic Wars : Artillery in siege, fortress and
navy
, 1792-1815 /Kevin F. Kiley.
"Napoleon was an artilleryman before he was an emperor. He understood the power and effectiveness of cannon and their ability to pulverise defences, reduce fortresses and destroy attacks. In return, the guns won Napoleon battles. This impressive study chronicles the story of the guns and men during the twenty-three years of almost continuous warfare from 1792-1815: from the battlefields of continental Europe to the almost primitive terrain of North America and of the seas, lakes and rivers that connected them. Detailed technical information is accompanied by vivid descriptions which allow the reader to imagine what it must have been liked to manoeuvre and man the guns in a variety of situations - whether on the march or on the battlefield. Based on years of research into regulations of the period, eyewitness accounts of artillerymen and material culled from official reports, the scope and depth of material will satisfy the serious researcher, while the lively narrative will appeal to the casual reader."--Provided by the publisher.
