N24964; A close view of the temporary repair to the port side of the battleship Resolution (1915) looking aft from the side wall of the dry dock in Portsmouth Dockyard, level with the anti-torpedo bulge. The Resolution was torpedoed by the French submarine Beveziers (1935) off Dakar on 25 Sep. 1940. The torpedo hit at station 97 in No. 1 boiler room and her bulges were flooded from stations 79 to 119.

N24627; The steam hammer at work in No. 3 Smithery of Portsmouth Dockyard. Four men in long aprons are holding the hot billet in place while the hammer fashions it into shape. On the right and behind the hammer are two 40 ton cranes manufactured by The Hydraulic Engineering Co of Chester in about 1880.

N24815; A starboard bow view of the destroyer Kelvin (1939) taken from alongside the ship abreast number two gun deck looking forward while she is berthed in Portsmouth Dockyard. The Kelvin was in collision with the cross channel steamer St Helier (1925) on 1 Dec. 1939, just three days after commissioning. Her hull plating has been scraped at station 33 and holed at station 24 in the seamen's mess on the upper deck where it joins the forecastle deck.

N24697; A tall and a short tripod, both with fittings on the top, photographed inside a workshop in Portsmouth Dockyard. The workshop has large sliding wooden doors. In the Portsmouth Dockyard negative register this negative is coupled with the negatives numbers N24695 and N24696 under the joint heading of "Air compressor and gun tripods". It is assumed that these tripods are for supporting air compressor guns and are not for weapons.

The photographer is on the roof of air raid shelter 255 and the funnel is the only part of the cruiser that can be seen. N24639; A close view of the 4 inch gun breach and shield of the destroyer Vortigern (1917) that was involved in the fatal accident on 9 Mar. 1937 in which labourer George Henning of West Street, Southsea was killed and labourer Charles Ruston was taken to hospital with an injured hand. The gun has been righted and the breech is supported on a stack of timber baulks. The Vortigern (1917) is in Portsmouth Dockyard.

N25144; A steel rectangular box with a domed top, heavily bolted to its sides, supported on large timber baulks outside a workshop in Portsmouth Dockyard, viewed from one corner. The box has three triangular pieces welded to each side with a pipe and a flexible hose coming into one side. The Portsmouth Dockyard negative register lists this as a "Model target". The box is identified on one of its ends as Box Mdl A D7
