British ships bearing down on a Spanish (?) fleet
This appears to show a British two-decker and frigate bearing down with guns cleared for action towards a divided Spanish fleet including two flagships, off a distant coast. The detail does not easily fit the Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1797 – which might be a first assumption – and the subject needs more research. The grid pattern, however, suggests that the drawing was used to transfer the design to canvas for painting.
