A galjoot and Dutch ships in a heavy sea

On the left is a starboard bow view of a galjoot before the wind, lifting to a sea. On the right is a ship pitching under fore course, mizzen and topsails. Other ships beyond are bringing-to and striking their topmasts. One ship has a boat in the tackles.

This is a pencil and wash drawing by the Younger, signed on the back, ‘W.V.VJ’. It has been dated by the subject and watermark; by the style and signature, however, it may be later.
