The battlecruiser HMS Hood (1918) underway during sea and gunnery trials.
A starboard bow view of the battlecruiser HMS Hood (1918) underway at speed. Significants amounts of smoke are coming from her funnel and the bow is obscured by the bow wave thrown up by the rough water the ship is ploughing through.
This photograph was taken between 5 and 29 March 1920 when she was undertaking sea and gunnery trials out of Rosyth. Points to note are (1) although she was built on the Clyde she is fitted with her 15" director on top of the forward control top and flying off platforms on B and X turrets and these were fitted at Rosyth in February 1920; (2) she is flying the trials flag from her port yardarm; (3) she does not have the admiral's flagpole at her foremast and this was fitted after 20 May 1920.
