H.M.S. Britannia leaving Devonport Harbour
Hand-coloured lithograph print, from a painting by Hornbrook, one of a pair from the Caird Collection. The print shows the Britannia (1820) leaving Devonport. Another state of this print in the NMM collection has a long inscription dedicating it to the Earl of Northesk. The Britannia, broken up in 1825, had been Northesk's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar, but since the Britannia is shown leaving with the Lord High Admiral on board, the date must be 1828.
