Admiral Sir George Rooke
An oval bust-length portrait of George Rooke (c. 1650–1709) in a long wig and armour. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Admiral Sir George Rooke’, and the engraver’s name and publication line, ‘J. Chapman sculp. / Publish’d as the Act directs Sept. 1st 1800.’ This print was engraved by John Chapman and published by him on 1 September 1800. The likeness may be loosely based on engraving after Michael Dahl’s portraits of the admiral (for example, PAD4692). (Updated June 2019.)
