State before title and publication line. An oval bust-length portrait of George Rooke (c. 1650–1709) in a long wig, armour and a sash fastened at the shoulder with a brooch. Lettered beneath the image with the production details: ‘J. Faber del. 1703 / F. Bartolozzi sculp 1794.’ This portrait was engraved in 1794 by Francesco Bartolozzi after a drawing by John Faber the Elder from 1703. The print was published by Robert Faulder and appeared as a frontispiece in John Charnock’s ‘Biographia Navalis; or, Impartial Memoirs of the Lives and Characters of Officers of the Navy of Great Britain, From the Year 1660 to the Present Time’ (London: R.
