Adml Rodney

An oval bust-length portrait of George Bridges Rodney (bap. 1718, d. 1792) in flag officer’s undress uniform, 1748–1767. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Adml. Rodney’. Also lettered with the production details and publication line, ‘Sir Joshua Reynolds pinxt. / P. W. Tomkins, pupil of F. Bartolozzi sculpt. / Published according to Act of Parlt. April 26th 1781 by I. Walker.’ This print was engraved by Peltro William Tomkins and published by John Walker on 26 April 1781. The portrait is after Joshua Reynolds’s oil painting of 1756–9, now at Petworth. (Updated May 2019.)
