St Vincent
State without publication details. A half-length portrait to left of John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent (1752–1820) in admiral’s undress uniform, 1795–1812, with the star of the Order of the Bath. Lettered beneath the image with a facsimile of the sitter’s signature. This print was engraved in 1840 for E. H. Maxwell (ed.), ‘The Naval and Military Almanac’ (London: A. H. Baily & Co., 1840), July, opposite page 30, alongside a biography of the sitter. The portrait was engraved by William Jackman after a portrait by William Beechey – probably the half-length portrait of 1807–9 (now National Portrait Gallery) but reversed and altered to show the sitter in naval uniform. (Updated June 2019.)
