John Whitfield Rutter, 1773-1825
Drawing. See also MNT0087 for another (miniature) portrait of this sitter, in later life. At his death, aged 53, he was captain of HM steam packet 'Spitfire' based at Dover, where he and his wife (d. 1854) are buried in St Martin's church. Their gravestone inscription is on the NMM Maritime Memorials web pages. [PvdM 10/09]
