Samuel Lord Hood: Member for Westminster

An oval bust-length portrait of Samuel Hood (1724–1816) in flag officer’s full-dress uniform, 1767–83, and a wig. Lettered beneath the image with the title, ‘Samuel Lord Hood. Member for Westminster.’ This print was published by Charles Cooke on 11 May 1791 as an illustration for the periodical, ‘The Senator; or Clarendon’s Parliamentary Chronicle’. It was engraved by William Grainger, supposedly after a drawing from the life by W. H. Brown, although the image bears a resemblance to James Northcote’s painting of 1784 (see BHC2774). This impression of the print has been cut down, removing the production details and publication line. For a complete impression, see PAD3263. (Updated May 2019.)
