A Squall off Cape Horn

Lithograph. Coloured print depicting an unidentified ship struggling through a snow storm in the furious waters off Cape Horn. Snow fills the darkened skies and the spray-topped waves threaten to ovewhelm the gunwhales. She has a 'fiddlehead' carving at the bow and two rows of gun-ports (one only faintly seen). Many hands are shown high in the rigging strung out along the yards clewing in the wildly flapping sails in preparation for reefing in the canvas while the ship lurches to starboard. Only the lowest (course) sail on the foremast is still set and a yard at the stern appears to have fallen. A blue pennant flies from the top of the main mast.
