        On board the Type 81 frigate Gurkha (1960) alongside the fitting out berth of John I Thornycroft & Co Ltd at Woolston, Southampton.  The photographer is in the operations room between 42 and 45½ stations on 1 deck looking forward and to starboard from 44½ station near the centreline showing the captain's high chair on the right.  Against the forward bulkhead are the desks of three signalmen, two of which are equipped with a morse key.  Above the desks are a telephone, a microphone, switchboards, a broadcast loudspeaker and a fleet disposition board.  To the side of the starboard desk is the signal filing board and next to it is the door to the asdic control room and sound room.  A visual display unit and an electronic stateboard are in the starboard forward corner.
