On board the Swedish cruise ship Gripsholm (1925) in the Pedro Miguel Locks in the Panama Canal heading south. She is in the east locks and the photographer is looking north from the port side of the aft boat deck
showing people on deck and on of the female members of the crew at the rail of the aft docking bridge. The lock gates are beginning to close and the fender chain has been raised behind the ship, which is connected to an electric mule which will control the positioning of the hull within the lock chamber. On either side of the picture are the large girder structures of the emergency dams.
