The Battle of Trafalgar, 21 Oct 1805: middle of the action
A pencil sketch of The Battle of Trafalgar, which probably shows the middle to later part of the action. This drawing was executed while Pocock was developing his ideas for the second of the pair of oils, which were subsequently engraved in Clarke and MacArthur's ‘Life of Admiral Lord Nelson’ (1809). The final result was a painting representing the action later on, after fighting had completely ended (BHC0747). BHC0747 is dated 1807, suggesting a similar date for this sketch.
