Invincible (1808)

Scale: 1:48. A plan showing the head and top of the trail-board with proposed figurehead for Invincible (1808), a 74-gun Third Rate, two-decker. The sketch does not have any official marks to indicate that it was approved, but the only time the ship was in Plymouth undergoing ‘Small to Middling Repairs’ was between June 1814 and January 1815.

The figurehead is a three-quarter length figurehead of a bearded and crowned male facing forward. He represents Zeus/Jupiter, as he is holding a sceptre with an eagle at the top and in his raised right hand is a bundle of lightning bolts. He is wearing a flowing toga with a billowing cloak pinned at his neck. The top of the plan has ‘Invincible’ written on it.

The reverse has pencil algebra sums and a swan on it.
